Kaizen-Gründervater Masaaki Imai sieht noch einen wichtigen Unterschied in japanischen Unternehmen: „Die damit verbundene prozessorientierte Art zu denken gegenüber dem westlichen innovations- und ergebnisorientierten Denken." In vielen Firmen bleibt Kaizen deshalb reine Theorie. Además, significa mejora continua en la vida personal, la vida familiar, la vida social y la vida laboral. Cuando se aplica en el lugar de trabajo, KAIZEN™ significa mejora continua que involucra a todos, gerentes y trabajadores por igual".
Kaizen is a combination of two Japanese words (kai+zen), literally means ―Change for the Better‖ [1]. Imai’s contribution has been one of integrating various kaizen management practices, such as Just-in-time, TQM, and TPM, into the cultural environments of client companies. He was also the first to organize study missions to Japan to study kaizen and Lean methods, a service that Kaizen Institute continues today, having led more than 200 groups and 4,000 people. In Japanese, Kaizen means “small, incremental, continuous improvement,” and the English translation is “continuous or continual improvement.” Kaizen is a philosophy that focuses both on the process and the results.
